Mary BELL/ Mary HAND
« on: Monday 03 May 21 01:42 BST (UK) »
Mary HAND migrated with her Family from Carrickmoss, Ireland in 1854 to Tasmania.
The Parents and Sons moved to Warrnambool, Victoria and lived there for many, many years.
One Daughter Mary HAND born 1836 stayed in Tasmania.
Did she marry someone named BELL or LIDDINGTON?
Is it possible Mary BELL who died at New Norfolk, Tasmania in 1905 the same person
as Mary HAND?

Some questions if I may ...

:) Do you already have the details of the 1905 death of Mary BELL?   Cemetery, funeral and/or death notice,  day/month,  etc?

:) What religion for Mary's parents and brothers?

:) What else do you already know about Mary?

Mary HAND, admitted to asylum in 1878 from Hobart Gaol.  Died June 1905 at New Norfolk  Hospital.

Likely you already have the following re Thomas Liddington Senior and Mary Hand.

Hi MAJM,
Thanks for your replies. Much appreciated.
Yes I have a large amount of information re Mary HAND , very little re Mary BELL.
Have the Births you listed in the 1870s.
Cannot find a birth for Thomas LIDDINGTON.  Was his Mother Mary Bell or Mary Hand?
Your comment " Leave it to others to comment on Mary Bell Liddington's 1860 s children" would be very useful.
Can you please help further.
Going around in circles here.
Kind regards

Clan,

in your opening post your quest has Mary BELL dying 1905, New Norfolk.

At reply #1,  I asked about that death,

Hi MAJM,
Mary HAND and her family were of the Catholic religion.  Not aware of Mary BELL's religion.
Re Mary HAND -- have a large amount of information re her, Parents and Brothers.  The parents and Brothers all moved to the Warrnambool Victoria area, whilst Mary remained here in Tasmania.
Also have information re Thomas LIDDINGTON who some claim married Mary. Thomas was buried in a protestant cemetery in Tasmania. The LIDDINGTON family have been traced back to the 1600s in Northamptonshire.
Mary BELL is the enigma -- The Mary BELL who came on the "Mooltan" may have been too old to bear children in the 1870s.  Have researched several other Mary BELL's of the period without success.
I would very much appreciate any information re birth of Thomas LIDDINGTON Jr.  Was he the Son of Mary BELL or Mary HAND?  Was Mary BELL also Mary HAND?  Are there any records of his birth?  For example would Mary HAND have had him baptised in a Catholic Church in Sorell?  have records re the 1870s trial, Mary being incarcerated at New Norfolk and her death in 1905.
When did Mary BELL arrive in Tasmania or was she born in the Colony?
Please if you or anyone else can help please let me know.
Kind regards
clancam37
