Just to also add that Royal Naval Reservists usually signed on for 5 years. James Brown enlisted on 6.4.1903 and his service number was 6264P - this record has not survived or it is not available online.

He re-enrolled for a further 5 years and his service number was 673Y - this is available online here:
BT 377/7/102526 - https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D8560793 - his service number has been incorrectly transcribed as T it should be Y.

He enrolled for another 5 years and his service number was 1414U as I previously mentioned in my last.
Some important addresses. His address is shown as 44 Market Street Aberdeen.
Another address has Eliza as NoK at 27 Queens Rd, Luton, Kent [I think] - maybe they mean something to you.

That's correct SW. He joins her 4.3.1914 at South Shields and is discharged 15.5.1914 at Cardiff.
KIRKBY was torpedoed and sunk by U-38 on the 17th August 1915.

A long shot. I found  a  James Brown age 41, born Aberdeen in a 1914/15 Crew Agreement of the ship  LUCILINE official number 110160.

https://1915crewlists.rmg.co.uk/document/189709#&gid=1&pid=3
Number 25 on the crew agreement. Page 6

You will note that number 26 is an R Brown age 38 also born in Aberdeen. Both give the same address.
Brothers?
Unfortunately, the writting is not the best but the signature of James Brown is very clear.
May be worth following up.

Could anyone help me locate information on R Brown? Could possibly be Robert?

I may have found his brother!? Robert James Brown born to Robert & Jane Brown in Aberdeen and also lived at 31 Ormande street :D :D

Odd that James was his middle name? Anyway can help decipher this? Seems like he was able to join?

The crew list for LUCILINE official number 110160 shows a previous ship as NEILROSE official number 124124.

I see him also aboard WAVERLEY official number 112442 no. #21 on the articles of agreement here:
https://1915crewlists.rmg.co.uk/document/191009 previous ship noted as BULGARIAN.

He is also shown as being aboard HUELVA official number 138995, previous ship WAVERLEY.
His age seems to have gone up by about 3 years but that is not uncommon - the address is still 31 Ormonde St in South Shields.

A search of the ship's official logbook and crew agreements may give up more information on him.

Much of it is RNR jargon and doesn't add much.
R.J. Brown is enrolled in the Trawler Section RNR on 22 January 1916. On the face of it he appears to have served for about 7 months when Commander in Chief The 'Nore' reports on 11 May 1916 that he is to be 'removed from strength' as he is suffering from [what looks to me like] 'general paralysis of the insane". He was invalided to RN Hospital Chatham on 9 May 1916.
He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
