The family of Christopher Lea baptised in Shenton in 1841, son of farmer Christopher and wife Sarah, were comfortably-off farmers and are well-documented, all except Christopher himself, who seems to disappear without trace after about 1863 (when mentioned in Sarah’s will).

His oldest brother, John, farmed first in Twycross, Leicestershire, then in Sudbury, Derbyshire, before becoming an inspector of railways in Rugby.

His older brother Richard, born 1839, married Elizabeth Fisher, daughter of the rector of Higham on the Hill, and he so became the uncle of Archbishop Fisher who crowned the Queen. Richard was a tea planter and later in the Indian Civil Service. His son Harry Kenilworth Lea became a fruit farmer in Nova Scotia and was buried in Earley, Berkshire (where his parents lived after retirement) in 1912 after dying in Canada. (Harry and his cousin the future Archbishop were in the Fisher household in Higham in 1891.)

I wonder, given the wanderlust of his brother Richard, whether Christopher also emigrated, and if so, where to look? (Maybe he was eaten by a tiger in India ;D)

Thanks for solving this so quickly, Debra. So he must have gone to India either with, or to join, older brother Richard, whose abode was given as Tezpur and occupation as planter when he married in Leamington in 1865.

Dave :)

p.s. I’ve managed to track down the original register image. He died of “natural causes”. I think that being eaten by a Bengal tiger would certainly qualify ;D

In case you don't have this, there are deaths of two children of Richard and Elixabeth.

Harriet Louisa Marion died 21 May 1871
