Divorce Records 1960's
« on: Wednesday 05 May 21 00:39 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Is it possible to access English divorce records from the 1960's? I know the couple married in Dublin in 1957, they said on the marriage cert address was intended to be Manchester and I have the record of the bride remarrying in Weymouth in 1973, i'm looking to trace the Groom who is a relation of mine. Would like to find what his address and his occupation was when he divorced, is it possible to find this somewhere? Other than what I have just stated I have no idea where in UK they divorced or the specific year, but obviously sometime between 1957 & 1973.

https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/divorce/

The above Link details where Divorce Records may be obtained, but depends on supplying relevent information.

Electoral Rolls for that period in time, would probably be the way forward, to try and trace Your Relative, but obviously difficult with what little information, You have about Him.

Local Newspapers often published grant of Decree Nisi, but there again it depends on knowing the Couple's locality.

That link does state very few case files survive after 1937.

I suspect that there are a few people on here that for personal reasons are glad that is true   :)

All you can get is a copy of the decree absolute. It can be expensive for a search if you don't know the details.
