Cannot find Alexander Samuel Cruickshanks

I am struggling to find any birth details of my sisters father-in-law who passed away in Gloucestershire in 1985.
His name is Alexander Samuel Cruickshanks and believe his dob is 14/06/1913 in Ayrshire.
He served in the Scottish Fusiliers  Service number 3128488.
I can find his marriage and his two children but that is it.
I found two possibles in the north of England however my brother-in-law is insistent that he was born i Ayrshire, Scotland.  Is it possible that he was an adopted child?
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

These are the only two births in Ayrshire 1913 +/- 1 year, none with the middle name Samuel.

We are awaiting the marriage certificate (yes, that was the correct one Colc) and will consider contacting the MOD.
The Scotlandspeople website has thrown up a good possible although the birthdates are a year or so out.
Is there anyway I can establish if Alexander was adopted?

I can find Florence in the 1939 living in Gloucestershire but not Alexander.  Going by her birth date this looks to be her birth registration
