It's not entirely clear to me, from the previous newspaper item I referenced, whether the husband mentioned was George Riddell or not. This newspaper item seems to suggest it was, as it's seems unlikely Florence married twice during the war period.

- she refused to face the prospect of staying home all her days
- she wanted to see the world and do things
- she began by becoming a governess in a Parsee family in Bombay
- then in war time she married a young Scotsman
- she wanted, as she used to say, do her bit
- when a baby arrived that became difficult
- but she decided to run a boarding house
- cholera came and she determined to flee India
- so the family went off to Kenya
- where for a a time Florence ran a school
- she had some queer colleagues
- but all did not go well and then the husband died
- she was left without money
- and the responsibility of supporting herself and her child
- it was then she decided to try writing
- and put almost everything she knew into "Kenya Mist",
- which found a publisher and became a newspaper serial
- under the title "Love and the Lions"
- Florence had found her true career
