Did they marry after banns published?
« on: Friday 07 May 21 10:51 BST (UK) »
I have found the banns for the following couple in Islington (St. Mary's parish):

Henry George Pugh, bachelor & Thirza Cordery, spinster, both of this parish

Banns announced on 16th, 23rd and 30th January 1853.

I can't seem to find any actual marriages for Islington St. Mary parish in 1853 on Ancestry.
And I can't seem to find an entry of FreeBMD. Maybe they didn't marry.

Would be intrigued to find out what happened to Thirza after January 1853 - it's possible she was the sister of my 3XG grandmother. My Thirza was from Littlemore in Oxfordshire and baptised in Iffley on 20 January 1833.

Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this  :)

Greetings from rainy, rainy Berlin

Most of the other sets of banns on that page show the date of the marriage, but not those for Thirza and Henry, so I would be inclined to think that they didn't.

Did she have sister Ellen father William?

Just looking at Ellen marriage in 1859 Littlemore to see if she was one of the witnesses.

I managed to locate the Islington St. Mary marriage records, and no sign of them in February or March so it seems the wedding didn't take place.

No other sign of a Henry George Pugh in London marriage records on Ancestry.

Yes, Ellen is my 3XG grandmother, but no Thirza as a witness to her wedding.

Thanks for everyone's help!  :)

How long did you have to marry after the Banns were published? Could the wedding have taken place but later.

I'd be interested to find the answer to that. The current law seems to be three months, but that was established after the date OP gave.
;D Doing my best, but frequently wrong ;D
:-* My thanks to everyone who helps me, you are all marvellous :-*
