Duffys of Tanderageebrack
« on: Friday 07 May 21 10:52 BST (UK) »
On the 1901 & 1911my great grandfather Francis Duffy lived in Tanderageebrack

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Monaghan/Monaghan_Rural/Tanderageebrack/1638385/ (Same for 1911)

However on his birth and marriage his says he was born in Tandergee

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1874/03147/2154288.pdf

His older brother John Duffy born in Tanderageebrack

Was there a spelling mistake for Francis? Was he born Tanderageebrack?

The marriage does not give place of birth- it is residence at time of marriage.

neighbouring townland-

It may be that locals sometimes shortened Tanderageebrack to Tanderagee but hoepfully someone with local knowledge can help.

Thats why I was confused on the town, the rest of the family was born in Tanderageebrack. If Francis was born in Tanderageebrack would his father Owen, also be from  Tanderageebrack?

Could Neal be my 3 times great grandfather? Could you help with any Mc Aree's in the area? I cant find anything related to Teresa

Is it likely that Duffys living in Tanderageebane and Tanderageebrack  be related?

and

https://www.townlands.ie/monaghan/monaghan/monaghan/monaghan-rural/tanderageebrack/

Both Monaghan, but different areas, albeit still possible that latter was shortened locally to Tanderagee as aghadowey has also suggested. I have seen similar happen with other townlands, wherby a shortened (and sometimes more than one), variation is used by locals.
