I think Ancestry may be useful if restrict search to 1838 and just the surname and only search New South Wales.

Thank you, that's great to see, am wondering if you have any access to information from Kent in regard to Mary Hobbs first husband George Coker/Cuckow who died not long after their marriage.
George and his Father Thomas Cuckow (Coker) were convicted and sentenced to death for stealing at Kent Court and they were transported to Sydney on board the "Mermaid" for life in Australia.
George Cuckow (Coker) was born 1809 and died in 1846 and his Father Thomas Cuckow was born 1766, died 1843 Cobbitty. George was assigned for work, but his Father was not assignable.
If you can give me more information on that too, would really appreciate that.
