Robinson/Robertson - Fisher marriage about 1830-41
« on: Tuesday 11 May 21 08:07 BST (UK) »
Ok I am not sure if this marriage was in Donegal or Derry (so trying in both)

William Robinson/Robertson to Jane Fisher (parents James Fisher and Anne) about 1830-1841

a address I have for Jane according to 1841 NSW Bounty Immigration records for William Robertson (Possibly Robinson) is Lurga Brack or Lurgy River Donegal

Marriage is too early for civil registration, but may appear somewhere in church records.

Regarding place Jane was from, here is a possibility:

Thanks,

Some of that info in the link is not quite correct. As it says parents not named but the document says father William Robinson and Mother is Jane Fisher (which are the names of William Robertson and his wife who also arrived on the Percy). Mary Ann Robinson's paperwork says "In the care of her brother William and his wife" where William Robertson's paperwork says parents John Robertson and Margaret plus there is no notation regarding a sister Mary Ann.

Hence I am trying to locate any supporting evidence if possible.

To see the below links you will need to sign into Familysearch.

plus two days later there is another Mary Anne Robinson who arrived with her brother William Robinson and his wife Isabella as both his and her paperwork say she is in his protection but they are from Donagheady Co Tyrone (not Londonderry).

Mary Ann Robinson's death (Mary Ann Cook) does say her father is John the same as William Robertson who also arrived on the Percy.

Kind Regards,

Wayne.

New South Wales Australia Assisted Immigrant Passenger  List 1828-1896
https://www.ancestry.com.au/search/collections/1204/

William ROBERTSON  24 years arrived "Percy"  24 Aug 1841 with wife Jane.

William, age 24, is not likely to have married early 1830s.

If William ROBERTSON and Jane, having arrived 1841 with no children, go on to have children in NSW, 1841+, you might suspect that they were not long married on arrival 1841.

Hi and thanks.

I have said 1830-41 just incase his age is not accurate. Mary Ann Robinson says 17 in 1841 but her headstone says she was born 1822 (if 17 she was born in 1824) and her obit says in 1906 she was 84 yo.

I have been looking in the NSW BDM Historical records but so far not sure if Robinson or Robertson plus I can't specifically locate the family with any certainty.

He arrived 28 (not 24) August 1841 according to the documents I attached above

Kind Regards,

Wayne Cook

Wivenhoe,

There is a Margaret Robinson to parents William Robinson and Jane born in 1841 but there is also a William to parents with the same names born in 1839 (before they arrived). Nothing for a William Robertson and Jane until 1855 and his name is John.

In Ireland Robertson and Robinson are used interchangeably so you might find the same family using both spellings at the same time.

Thanks for the help so far above.

This thread in here was specifically looking for the Marriage of William Robinson/Robertson and Jane Fisher because she was from Donegal and as marriages usually occurred in the women's birthplace it was most likely performed in Donegal.

The rest of the family was from Derry and lived in Derry but because all the rest above was regarding the family in Derry (births, marriages) the thread in Derry was marked by the moderators as a duplicate and locked.

So now the thread regarding this family in Derry (looking for marriages and baptisms) can no longer be provided to me in Derry.

Sorry to those in Donegal not wishing to read things about Derry but now I can not keep the two different counties information separate and in the relevant county.
