oops, I missed Reply #31
edit: see it for Enoch Bagnall's listings in the Hammond City Directory. I'm not sure how I missed him in 1917, but at least Sandra found it.

1926 Hammond City Directory
Enoch Bagnall, flagman, resides 108 Russell

not in 1917, 1921, 1923
no listing for his son John in any of those years or in 1928, 1929
I haven't looked earlier than 1917. not all years were at ancestry

------------
no Bagnall listed as mayor of Hammond, Indiana

Thank you Bex, delighted you did turn up a USA connection with John and more so with Enoch.
So family folklore was loosely semi truth  :)

Take Care

Thank you for the help. Not only did you find the Bagnalls for me but your information somehow led me to find a branch of the family in Fall River, through Elizabeth Ann's husband down his maternal line. I think over the years 2 maybe 3 tales have got amalgamated over the years (chinese whispers, you know) :)

Thanks again
Bex

You're welcome. Good to know the Fall River man was also connected.
