Miranda McGregor
« on: Wednesday 12 May 21 08:29 BST (UK) »
Miranda McGregor is showing on 1939 in St Pancras with a birth of 13/12/1912, living in a boarding house/hotel/whatever, a single typist.
Her name is changed to Brown, and a date of birth of 18/12/1918, plus various notes.

There is a marriage for Miranda McGregor to Mr White in 1932, that I hope is not her, but could have been - depending on her birthdate.

I can see the marriage to Mr Brown in 1943 and then a rather late marriage to Mr Startup in 1960 using the Startup and McGregor surnames.   (There is a daughter who married under the Brown and Startup surnames, and was born as Brown mmn McGregor)

I cannot see a birth in Scotland.

Can anyone see a birth or death for her?

(Mr Startup dies in 1978, born 1908, his first wife died in 1944 - so she has plenty of time to marry again.)

Sorry - not got any of the marriage certificates

If anyone is searching for her on Ancestry, she is transcribed in 1939 as ‘Airauda Aigragos’.  ::)

Re Miranda who married Ernest White in 1932 in Sussex.
There is a newspaper snippet
1931 Mid Sussex Times
Miranda McGregor, a maid ...
She appears to be a witness to theft but I can’t see the article.

There are two births - 1933 and 1936, Cuckfield with the right surnames.

I found her on F M P using the change in surnames, though they had ??gragor for McGregor.

Will look at newspaper, thanks.

Added: No extra information in that newspaper article that would help.

There are a couple of trees which mention her - her mother named as Maidie Scott.

Again looking at snippets, there is mention of Maidie as a music hall artist.
1927 ‘married at the Paddington registry office’ to old friend Mr Noel Robertson..
This marriage shows Maidie as Mary E McGregor or Pim.

Another snippet 1917, Maidie Scott has 5 brothers in the army.

Still re Maidie Scott who might have a connection

The earliest reference I can see is 1905 ‘The Era, London’

In 1918, The Sketch’ seems to have a feature on her home.

Why do you hope she is not the one who marries Ernest White?

Yes, I saw a tree, but with so little evidence for anything I was struggling to make it fit - other trees had birth in 1922, which would make a marriage in 1932 impossible.

Off for my second vaccination, now, thanks for looking.

Sorry, about to cross post - if born 1918 could not have married in 1932.  No other reason.  If it was her, she must have left those children behind, and claim to be single in 1939.

Yes, much more to search good luck. Perhaps you need to get certificates.

And good luck with the vaccination.

I have considered getting a marriage certificate (or 2 or 3), but fear they would lack any useful information.  I know anything can help, so might begin with Mr Startup's will, just to see if they were still together or she was deceased.

Car park for vaccination chock-a-block, but straight in and out of clinic, no problems.
