I have applied for only one of the marriage certificates, and am now trying to find out if anyone with trees has got any of them - some information must have come from somewhere, one would think.  But not holding out much hope.  Perhaps a really useful tree got deleted.

Mary Diana (the daughter) married Richard Hugh Shapter Robinson in South Africa in the 1950s, or so I have gleaned from another tree!

Thanks for that - I might end up with detailed knowledge of the wrong family - but it won't be for the first time.   :)

Me too.

But... may be the tree with little information which has Maidie as mum based it on something   ;)

Brilliant - thank you 😊

If Miranda is a daughter of JF MacGregor then any descendants of hers should be DNA matches with me. Nobody is jumping out at the moment, but I will keep an eye on my unexplained matches. Chempat - would you be related too?

No, I am not related at all.

A couple got married in 1969, and she was the daughter of Mr & Mrs B D Startup.  As they are probably still alive I will just say that I thought, with those names, it would be a doddle to do, but there was a problem from the off.  I now have a lot of pages of notes, when, usually, births, marriages and deaths can just fall out - particularly if they are, and stay, local.

I don’t know anything about Miranda McGregor, but I have Mary Elizabeth Pim in my tree as she married my relative John Francis MacGregor. (He is my 1st cousin 3x removed - born in Glasgow).

Here’s a summary of what I have on her:

1900: Married Alfred James Scott Dodd, in Merthyr Tydfil
1913: Divorce proceedings begun (final decree 16 Feb 1914) - based on her adultery with J F MacGregor
1914: Married John Francis MacGregor, in Marylebone
1922: Twins born on 23 Nov - John Francis Pim MacGregor and Mary Diana MacGregor
1925: Divorce proceedings begun between the MacGregors. Wife’s petition.
1927: Marriage to Noel Yeo Robertson

Date unknown: Emigration to South Africa with Noel and the twin children

1943: Death of son John in WW2 (Italy)

Thank you Ladyhawk - I haven’t been able to pin down a precise emigration date either, but imagine it must have been fairly soon after the wedding in the light of this piece in The Stage, 17 March 1927:

Maisie Scott is to retire from the stage. She says “I am giving up my theatrical work because I recently married an engineer who now insists that I shall go with him to South Africa, where his work lies”. Miss Scott will make her last appearance at the Holborn Empire in May, after being on the stage for twenty-one years, less two months.

The May 1926 child custody report is interesting, isn’t it - it clearly refers only to the twins and no other children of the MacGregor couple. If born in late 1912 Miranda would not yet have been 14 so not independent. And if she wasn’t theirs, who was she?

Chempat which marriage certificate have you ordered? I am quite happy to get one so as to help solve this, but probably best if we don’t duplicate :) Feel free to PM me if you like.
