Looking for advice finding the Morgans
« on: Thursday 13 May 21 09:42 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm helping a friend to trace her family. I ordered the marriage cert of her parents to find grandfathers. One side I have had no trouble finding info. The other proves elusive!!
Here's what I know.
1957 marriage Gerald Morgan to Margaret Reeves. Gerald was 22.
His father was Henry Morgan already deceased at the time of the wedding. He was a foundry worker.
As far as she knows Henry Morgan was Irish. Gerald had a brother, Patrick.
There was a move to the midlands but it's unknown if that was before or after Gerald's birth. I can't find his birth. I have found two deaths in the midlands for a Gerald Morgan with the right year of birth so I don't know which is right.
I found a Henry Morgan dob 1909 death 1953 south Dublin which fits the timeline but I can't find anything else so I can't assume it's right.
Does anyone have any advice or ideas? It's driving me nuts  ;D
Thanks in advance  :)

Greetings, and a warm welcome to Rootschat

FamilySearch has a possible birth registration which may be worth looking into:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F176-J2C
Birth Sep qtr 1934 Dublin North, Gerald G MORGAN, mother's maiden name WHITNEY

I had a quick look for a MORGAN-WHITNEY marriage to identify the parents' forenames, but haven't spotted it yet.
Please help me to help you by citing sources for information.

Death reg shows Gerald's birthdate as 5.10.1934 so a birth would be registered in the December qtr.

On both marriage & death entries he is shown as just Gerald

You don't say if your friend has actually told you or knows that his/her father is deceased...he may not be at only 86 years old...

Somerset: Poole, Hutchings/Hutchin(s), Harvey/Harvie, Bullen

The other Midlands death was born 7.8.1935

Surely your friends knows her fathers birthdate & when & where he died?  I am assuming he is deceased because if he were still alive - she would be asking him for info about his parents - not Rootschat  ;D

Looking at other births in Ireland with mothers maiden name Whitney
This looks like a possible marriage 17 October 1923 Dublin
Annie Charlotte Whitney
Edward Morgan

So don't think that's the right birth philipsearching

And a warm welcome from me also

What is the actual date in 1957.
Are the witnesses useful?  Who were they?

I'm not too comfortable sharing too much about that. It's enough to say she doesn't have contact with family and last saw him when she was 11. It's kind of the reason for wanting to find out about everything, find her roots so to speak  :) She heard that he is deceased.
