Galbally, Limerick.
« on: Thursday 13 May 21 12:29 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My Grandfather Bernard A Tracy was a teacher. I came across details of him on The National Archives under the Commissioners of National Education in 1905. Listing   Lowtown, Galbally, Limerick. as one of the places he was in .
Just wondering if anyone knows of this school as I am wondering if he was a student here or a teacher.
I had no idea he was in Limerick as I have records of him living in Knightstown, Valencia Island, Kerry.
His roll number was 7887 if this is of any significance?
Any idea's would be most welcome. Thank you.
Jane.

Is this his marriage in 1909? The certificate can’t be seen but he is described as a ‘Merchant’s son’.

Do you have him in 1911?

I can see there is a child b 1911 - Bernard is a National Teacher then.

If this is him in 1901, he is a 16 yr old scholar so perhaps in 1905 he was newly qualified.

Just looked and it says 2yrs 6 months teaching experience then 3 schools named.

register image for Tracy, Shanahan marriage

look for other marriages around the same date in the same area, and scroll back and forth checking for the right page number (165) based on the index

Lowestown as it was called is the old National school in Galbally village. It is now used as the Community centre. Lowe was the Landlord that built the village. The school opened around 1890.
