Heywood,

There is a newspaper snippet 30th May 1884, Todmorden Advertiser
It mentions ‘violently and unlawfully assaulted his wife, Louisa Stansfield’  but does not mention the name in the snippet. It may not be this Louisa.

James Henry Stansfield on the night 23rd inst. He pleaded guilty. 3 months imprisonment with hard labour. It doesn't make good reading, as this was seemingly not the first time he had violently abused her.

John

So not Joseph. Thanks John.

I was thinking it might help with placing the children.

The Critchley Almond name is unique in terms of for the last 20 years of researching him on all family research platforms, none of my family & myself have come across another person with the same name.

With regard to Critchley's baptism, this took place at St. Mary the Virgin C of E (now Blackburn Cathedral) 4 Sept. 1853. son of Richard & Mary.

1891 Census for 3 Peel Lane Heywood-

Critchley Almond & Louisa Stansfield with the children-

Richard Stansfield born in Clitheroe in 1883 & Hannah Stansfield  born in Oswaldtwistle in 1886, both baptised on 21 March 1889 as Catholics at St Mary of The Assumption in Burnley.

The other children, Simeon Stansfield (son of Joseph Stansfield & Louisa Stansfield) & John William Stansfield were baptised as C of E.
James Moran son of Critchley Almond & Ann Moran baptised as Catholic at St. Mary's Islington
Blackburn in 1878.

Is Charles the same family?

Yes, I see the baptisms, just wondered about the change for the later ones - baptisms not children. It just seems odd.

Have you checked the Clitheroe address where Richard was born?
(Clutching at straws really)

Not sure about Charles Stansfield being Joseph & Louisa's son  they didn't marry until 19 Dec. 1874 so she was still Louisa Smith in April 1974, although the child wasn't baptised until 22 March 1875.
Or maybe she had the child with Joseph and waited until they where married before Charles was baptised!

I don't understand the Catholic baptisms, but I know Richard Stansfield was single when he died in Oswaldtwistle in 1903, I have a copy of the death certificate, Critchley Almond was named as his father & my Grandfather was named as his half brother.
Not sure how I can find an address in Clitheroe for Richard

Hannah married James Dawson in Bacup in 1902 in a non- Catholic church.
