Duxburys of Leeds
« on: Friday 14 May 21 09:24 BST (UK) »
My ancestor Bathsheba Firth or Frith married 4 times. Her first husband was Thomas Duxbury.
They married at St Peter Leeds on 25th January 1732.

They had 3 (possible, only the father's name is given) children:
Nathan b Jan 1733 Church Yard, Leeds. Bapt St Peter Leeds.  Died 1768 Kirkgate Leeds
John b August 1735 Kirkgate Leeds, bapt St Peter Leeds. Died 1736 St Peter Leeds (can't see the
                                                                                                    actual record for this death)
Mary b Jun 1737 Church Yard, Leeds, bapt St Peter Leeds.

There is a possible death record for Thomas Duxbury, Aug 1737 St Peter Leeds, address Church Yard

Bathsheba married again , to Thomas Buck, May 1738

My mystery is a burial record for a Mary Duxbury, daughter of widow Duxbury 27th Feb 1737 St Peter Leeds.

I'm trying to work out if it's a different Duxbury family, or I've got the wrong death for Thomas.

Thanks in advance

Are the dates for the years in the registers running Jan -> Dec at this time?

or have you verified the dates from actually looking at the register, or have you relied on a transciption?

I note the record you refer to on freereg 27 Feb 1737/38, this means the church was probably using the Julian calender, the year end for 1737 would be Lady Day at the end of March, the record has also used the Gregorian calendar, which means the death would have occurred in 1738.

Actual registers, but the burial pages don't have the year at the top and are posted as a single page. I scrolled back and forwards and the baptisms on the page before and after are dated

Thanks Colin. I'll look at the originals again with that in mind. Certainly would make sense
