I have a John Ranson & Mary Ranson on 1841 census, but can find no further accurate information. They lived in st peters ipswich. Their daughter Mary married Robert Taylor 2/10/1854 - marriage cert shows father John Ranson as coal porter. any info much appreciated

thankyou for the info. would really like to find maiden name of John Ranson's wife Mary Ann, but can't find a marriage. have guessed their dob as 1796 & 1801 from the 1841 info. & possibly married 1822 - 1826. their eldest William was born 1826.

As Mary Ann junior is living with her mother & maternal grandmother on the census in 1851 have you discounted the surname Smith

1851 census for Mary Ann & her brother Peter
Elizabeth   Smith Widow   83   bn Ofton, Suffolk, England
Mary Ann   Ransome   Dtr   Widow   40   bn   Somersham, Suffolk
Mary Ann   Ransome   Grand Daughter   16
Peter   Ransome   Grand Son    14

sorry - hadn't read this properly! but l have a birth for Mary of 1801 as she was 40 in 1841, so not sure if it's the same family? the children's dates tally though. signing off now - getting brainfog. thankyou for your input.

1841 - Stoke Green, St Peter, Ipswich
John   Ranson 45
Mary   Ranson 40
Mary Ann Ranson 6
William Ranson 15
Thomas Ranson 11
Peter   Ranson 4
All born in county except John.

Ages on the 1841 census were rounded down for those 15 & above.  Ages on all census are often unreliable, it is possible that Elizabeth Smith 'completed' the form for the enumerator and got her daughters age wrong.

Have you located Mary Ranson snr after the 1841 census.

This is the info l started with. No l can't find Mary Ann senior after that, so may have to assume, as you say, that Elizabeth Smith calculated the age incorrectly. Now l have a Smith to investigate!! Thanks once again for your input.
