ydna tests for Reffell, Reffold, Ruffell, Ruffold
« on: Friday 14 May 21 18:55 BST (UK) »
First my apologies if this is not the correct forum as I do not know which  to post it to. Apart from myself only one person with my surname in the world (my 6th cousin) has taken a yDNA test. My surname is found with a great deal of variation. As well as Reffell, Reffold,Reffield, Ruffold and Ruffell records are found for my ancestors. I think Reffell may have evolved from Ruffold.Have any people surnamed Ruffold, Reffold,Reffield etc taken yDNA tests? My matches include a person surnamed Ruffell as well as Mann, Onstatt and
Everly.

Your thread intrigued me but I can't help.

Back in the 20th century we had a giant of a chap as a neighbour with the surname Ruffles.  I've looked on a distribution map and it seems to be contained in the eastern part of England. According to one website it's of old English/French/Latin origins meaning "red hair"

Funnily enough, I've now looked on a German gedbas website and there's pages of the surnames RUFFLE and RUFFEL

Good luck
