Wonder what others think of the below-am I going down a rabbit hole here.
The marriage ref found by PaulineJ
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLQH-Y2B9 indicates Georges father as William Griffin. I cannot for the life of me find a GRO record for this marriage-can anyone else.
My experience tends to show that various types of work form close communities. George in 1901/11 census is a boatman (barge on canals). He probably learnt his skills from his father. On that basis could the following be "our George".
1891 census rg12 1124 122 26
William Griffin 40 Master (barge) born Wellington Staffs
William son 15 helper
George son 13 helper born Northamptonshire
John son 7 helper
1881 census rg11 1560 85 19
William Griffin 31
Fanny 28
William 4 Braunston Northants
Fanny 2months "
John 2 2
Fanny was born as Fanny Millard Griffin mq 1881 mmn Millard.
William mq 1877 mmn Millard
John mq 1879 mmn Millard
All children born reg dist Daventry which covers Braunston
William and Fanny married 4.6.1876 Warwick--image on FindMyPast-William occ Boatman
What throws this a bit is 2 George's are born with mmn Millard 1882 & 1884 and they would be to young to marry in 1894. Our George was born c 1874 according to marriage so born c1874 pre Williams marriage to Fanny. Could he have been born as a Millard and adopted the Griffin surname.
