Florence Holness
« on: Saturday 15 May 21 15:51 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon.
Does anyone know if there was a children’s home in Sandwich, or surrounding area?we have found out that Florence was a matron in one, so we are looking at when and where. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to find out when she went into St Augustine’s. Her death certificate said she was retired. Any help would be appreciated. Florence b 1895 d 1974 . She did live in Sandwich.
Thanks Carol.

Did you establish where she was buried.  Just wondering as I also had someone in St Augustines who died a few years earlier and I don't know what happened to them.

Looks like she was resident and incapacitated at Kent County Mental Hospital Chartham, Canterbury, 1939.

We did lots of phone calls yesterday, and determined she was buried, her elder sister organised funeral and it is looking like St. Peter’s in Broadstairs, as her sister lived up the road from there another sister already in residence!
We have contacted the local undertaker who has staff member who likes searching family history, how lucky is that? And will make contact next week. Thanet crem offer a search of up to four people and some of local area for a fee, so just waiting for reply’s. We did get her death certificate which helped.

Thank you for that update Carol, brilliant that the person at the undertakers is in to family history.

Mine is more likely to be buried near Deal where one of her sisters was living, the other was in London.  It is one of those things I have not bothered about until I saw your post  ;D. I really ought to tie up some loose ends.

Well Rosie, I’m sure you will be able to tie up loose ends with your expertise!
If you have dates ring some undertakers, they were all so helpful and had the time. Also Barham crem were helpful.
Good luck
Carol.
Are you in Kent area ?
