Sorry, my first message was sent before completion!

Hello everyone

I am trying to help a correspondent here in France to return the intriguing unopened letter below to the addressee or a descendant of his.  I have been unable to find a John PEEBLES or a family of that name in the residential directories for Southampton on line at the Local and Maritime Digital Archive (I looked at those for 1954, 1960 and 1964) or anywhere else I have searched (the main commercial sites for UK records).  I did find a birth to a John Peebles in Southampton Registration district in 1964, but I obviously can't put any details on here as the lady in question is probably still alive.

If anyone can help or give me suggestions for other lines of research, I'd be most grateful.

There is a registered death for John A L Peebles in June qtr 1943, Isle of wight?

I'm afraid I have absolutely no other information (nor does my correspondent who doesn't want to open the letter).  i realise this is all very much a long shot but I'm always amazed by what Rootschatters manage to find!

I'm not sure there was a Trafalgar Square in Southampton (happy to be corrected).

There is a Trafalgar Road.

The trouble with street directories is that they only list the head of the house.  He may have just been staying at the address.

Perhaps Electoral Registers would help.
