Maggie ROWLES 1882-?
« on: Monday 17 May 21 09:53 BST (UK) »
Maggie was the daughter of Thomas and Caroline ROWLES and was born at Kiwitea in 1882. In 1902 she married John Charles CAMERON.

After that things get confusing.

According to various online trees they had three children -
Maggie 1903-1962 married Robert TORRANCE in 1916
Mary Maggie 1903-1903
Alexander Lancelot 1905-1988 - No problems with this one he all checks out.

I do not believe there were two daughters, only one. Maggie was born 21 Jun 1903 at Ashhurst. There is a burial in the Feilding Cemetery for a 1 month old Mary Maggie CAMERON on 29 Jul 1903. No other birth for a Maggie or Margaret or Mary that fits.

The Maggie who married Robert TORRANCE I believe was the mother Maggie nee ROWLES. The age of the Margaret TORRANCE who died in 1962 was 75 so born c1887 not 1903. Electoral rolls have them in Masterton, Oamaru and then Avon, Christchurch until 1960, where they are both said to have died, Robert in 1963. Although I am wondering if the Robert who died in 1963 was the one married to Mary Rose.

Hoping some fresh eyes can help.

Many thanks.
Ian C

Maggie applied for separation 1904. Refused

so it seems unlikely that the eldest child of the Cameron/Torrance marriage would be named Cameron
as he was (Allen Cameron Aird TORRANCE) b 1917

Maggie born 1903 would have been 13 when she married if the trees had been correct.

I am wondering about Alexander Lancelot.  he was registered East Taieri. Rather a long way from Ashhurst, and when he was engaged, his parents were Mr & Mrs J. Cameron of Pukerangi, and he was the 'elder son'

added.
In 1938. Alexander Lancelot, John and Margaret CAMERON are all on the Central Otago electoral roll at "The Reefs". John is a farmer, Alexander a labourer.

Hi

I don't think Alexander Lancelot it the correct "child". ..  added - I mean he is not the son of this particular Robert (d. 1963) and Maggie TORRANCE.

The son of Robert TORRANCE (d. 1963) mentioned in his Will, is named as "Alick".

I think this is Alick  >

... mentioned in Will is his brother - Errol Cameron Aird TORRANCE.

"Cameron Aird" ... these people in NZ records also share these names

>   Mary Cameron Aird TORRANCE - married 1920 to Robert Burns BOYD.
[She died 1939 aged 40 - obit says born Ayrshire.   Resided at or near Otorohanga.  Don't know if there's connection to Robert TORRANCE.]
>  Errol Cameron Aird TORRANCE - s/o Robert - brother of Alick Robert TORRANCE.
