Struggling to find a marriage entry
« on: Monday 17 May 21 16:05 BST (UK) »
My 2nd Great Aunt was Susannah Ellis, 1841(Retford, Nottinghamshire-1898 (Dewsbury, West Yorkshire),who I'm lead to believe was married to a George Wilson.

I have the appropriate names in censuses dating from 1851 to 1901, when Susannah is absent, matching up with the death I have for her in 1898.

However a distant relative is insistent that I have the wrong Susannah as she has her dying in 1866, unmarried. I have given her the information I have, including the entry of her death, but she now has me wondering if I do have the wrong Susannah, as I can find no record of her marriage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you know if she has the death certificate?  If so was the informant a family member?

That might help prove it one way or the other.

Was she the daughter of Richard & Mary?

1861 age 19 unmarried living with parents and siblings in Yorkshire

Interestingly there is a George Wilson 15 lodger from Notts on the same page

Marriage Jun 1861 Worksop

Susannah Ellis
Joseph Marsden
George Wilson
Emma Woodhead

So you probably need a certificate to confirm the name of her father

No she doesn't, she is just questioning entries in my tree that she believes to be wrong.

Yes that's her. I hadn't read further down the page, but the George I have was born in 1834, so it may just be coincidence..
