Albert SHEFFIELD, Gunner 172277, Royal Garrison Artillery, was, according to his Medal Index Card (National Archive) awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.  This indicates that he saw active service in a theatre of war, but not before 1916 (as he was not awarded the 1914 Star or the 1914-15 Star).  The M-I-C does not list the theatre of war he served in or the date of entry (this is frequently the case with service from 1916 onwards).

ADDED
- the M-I-C notes the Medal Roll as RGA/202B.  If (and this needs to be confirmed by someone with more knowledge than me!) this refers to 202 Battery RGA, the "Long Long Trail" website states that 202 Heavy Battery was deployed to Egypt in May 1917.
