books or websites on British showmen?
« on: Wednesday 19 May 21 23:15 BST (UK) »
I am doing research on showmen in East Anglia -- Norfolk and Suffolk. What are the best resources to track down information? Do you have any books or websites that you recommend?

Currently I'm researching the Cheeseman family:
Uriah Cheeseman
BIRTH 14 MAR 1824 • Mereworth, Kent, England
DEATH JAN 1908 • Living Wagon, Castleacre, Norfolk, England

Thank you!

Have a look at the The National Fairground archive at Sheffield, The Showmen's Guild, have a look at the links here : https://rtfhs.org.uk/links/ - you need to scroll down to the the section headed  "British fairground history and archives"

Two books you might find of interest are Frances Brown's "Fairfield Folk" and Kevin Scrivens and Stephen Smith's "Hancocks of the West" which has the subtitle "Showmen of the Past"
