Jeremiah Murphy Shoreditch
« on: Thursday 20 May 21 09:50 BST (UK) »
Good Morning,

My irish ancestors came over to London sometime in the early 1800s, living in the Shoreditch area in the early to mid 1800s. I have found Jememiah Murphy as a witness to my 3 x great grandfather Daniel Murphy marriage to Bridget Quill in 1860 at St Marys Catholic Chuch Moorfields, Its the first time I have come across Jeremiah and would like some help finding him, the only address I have for him is 5, York Place, I'm guessing its in Hoxton,?

Many Thanks in advance

thanks in advance

Do you have Daniel in earlier censuses?
Is there a brother Jeremiah perhaps?
What was Daniel’s father’s name and occupation?

1851

something like White Head (or Hand) Place, Poplar

all born Cork, Ireland

Jermiah Murphy   62.  labourer
Johannah Murphy 55
Mary Murphy   19
Jeremiah Murphy 17 labourer

Everyone else on the census sheet is also  from Cork

Earlier I saw a baptism of Maria MURPHY in February 1831 to Jeremiah Murhpy, mother Johanna O'Neill or Neill.  a sponsor was John O'Neill or Neill but now I cannot find that image to confirm those details and if the O' was there or not.

modified as found the record.  Castletownbere, Cork. Diocesse = Kerry
in Irish,  Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915 on Ancestry

I should have added - the other sponsor was Peter Ha....ington.  Not quite sure exactly

There were at least 12 London streets named York Place:

The Murphy parents, John and Mary A, together with Bridget Murphy ‘sister in law’ and her new baby are living at 5 York Place in 1861 239/36/21

Presumably, this is Bridget Quill as Daniel is shown elsewhere.

Is that the reference for York Place or do you mean Jeremiah was living there from the record you have?

Yes
John was Daniels father, Mary anne his step mother.
I've no idea why it says sister in law for Bridget, should be daughter in law, and yes this is the address for Jeremiah a year earlier,.
