Disappearance of Elizabeth Anderson after 1868
« on: Thursday 20 May 21 15:14 BST (UK) »
I've got a mystery here and I need all the help I can get.

My ancestor Elizabeth Anderson was born 1842 (I can't find the exact date) in St Giles, Durham, England to Luke Anderson and Jane Whitfield. She then marries John Murrey Hindshaw at Christ Chruch, Tynemouth, Northumberland, England. She has a daughter in 1862, a son in 1864 and another daughter in 1868. Then she disappears. In the 1871 census she is not recorded living with her husband and kids (I thought she maybe died but the marital status for her husband says married). Same thing happens with the 1881 census of her husband and kids. But then when the 1891 census comes out it says that her husband is widowed. So she died sometime between 1882 and 1891... Where did she go after the birth of her last child (which was in Gateshead, England)? And when did she die?

Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

There is an Elizabeth Hindshaw, married, 29 b. Durham working as a domestic servant in Kensington London in the Mitchell household. A/try have her entry indexed as Hindshan (with a correction).

Some inaccuracies re birthplace but this is from a tree on Ancestry

Quote
When Elizabeth Anderson was born in July 1840 in Wylam, Northumberland, her father, Luke, was 51, and her mother, Jane, was 43. She married John Murray Hindshaw on 7 January 1861 in Tynemouth, Northumberland. They had four children during their marriage. She died in 1891 at the age of 51.

Wylam would have been in Hexham RD. The maiden surname for this Elizabeth Anderson was Gray.

My ancestor Elizabeth Anderson was born 1842 (I can't find the exact date) in St Giles, Durham, England to Luke Anderson and Jane Whitfield.

What is the source for this information please? This birth would have been in Durham and Lanchester Registration District at the time and the only Elizabeth I can find there was born in the last q 1841, mother's maiden surname Snowdon.

Or an alternative scenario also from an Ancestry tree  :-X

When Elizabeth Anderson was born in July 1840 in North Shields, Northumberland, England, her father, Luke, was 32, and her mother, Jane, was 28. She married John Murray Hindshaw on January 7, 1861, in her hometown. They had three children during their marriage. She died in 1891 at the age of 51.

The said tree gives two different places of birth: Wylam and North Shields. and then links to a census in 1851 which states she was born in Durham St Giles.

In the census, the birthplace of Jane Anderson, wife of Luke, is Witton-le-Wear, circa 1812/3
Snowdon activity there.

Is this connected to anything? :-\
