Colour striker
« on: Friday 21 May 21 10:33 BST (UK) »
Given the local industry, I assume a colour striker was employed in the paint industry.  But doing what?
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

It's to do with mixing paint colours. Rather than me trying to summarise and possibly getting it wrong, have a look at

http://doot.spub.co.uk/code.php?value=152

"Tints mill hand" which this entry refers to is the last but one item on the page.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
