Did Ann Lakin re marry and become Ann Newbold?????
« on: Sunday 23 May 21 15:10 BST (UK) »
I have a Ann Lakin (Nee Bottomore) born circa 1832/33 in Sheepshed, Leicestershire and she married William Lakin (born circa 1826 in Hathern, Leicestershire.  They married circa 1849/50

I have found the family on the 1851 and 1861 census.  In 1861 they lived in Well Yard, Sheepshed with their children Henry, William, Eliza and Mary.

I cant find any trace of Ann & William Lakin anywhere on the 1871 census.  I can find Eliza Lakin living as a stepdaughter to a Thomas Newbold and Ann Newbold and their children in Sheepshed.

Im wondering if William died and Ann re married to Thomas Newbold.  However im having trouble finding :

Williams death registered
Ann & Thomas marriage

Am I barking up the wrong tree thinking that Ann remarried or have I just not looked hard enough to find William and Ann on the 1871 census?????

Not sure if you have the details of Ann's marriage to William Lakin -

30 March 1851 - Sheepshed - by Banns

William Lakin - 24, bachelor, Frame Work Knitter.  No father named.
Ann Bottomore - 19, spinster, Seamer.  Father - Thomas, Frame Work Knitter.

Witnesses - Henry and Mary Lakin - all made their mark.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There are the following burials at Sheepshed -

29 July 1861 - William Lakin - aged 35
11 May 1861 - Mary Lakin - infant

Both of Sheepshed.

To expand on emeltom's find:

14 September 1868

John Newbold, f.a., widower, Coal Higger (??).  No father named.
Anne Lakin, f.a., widow.  Father:  Thomas Bottomore, Frame Work Knitter

Neither signed the register.

You can also look at the births of the NEWBOLD children, it appears that Adelaide was the first between them.

NEWBOLD, ADELAIDE
Mother's maiden surname: BOTTOMORE
GRO Reference: 1869  S Quarter in LOUGHBOROUGH  Volume 07A  Page 112

In the census from 1871 John Newbold is listed as a coal merchant.  the fact that Mary Lakin died as an infant would explain why she isnt listed living with her mother.

William and Ann Lakin had a son called William.  I can find two records on 1871 census for William Lakin born circa 1853.  Both are in Sheepshed.

One a William Lakin is living with John & Mary Wain and listed as nephew on Forest Street

The other William Lakin is living with George & Mary Lakin and listed as relative on Chapel Street

Any ideas how I can figure out which one is the correct one?

There seem to be quite a lot of different -but possibly linked - Newbolds around that area, I've got some Williams, and an Ann, but they're not the same as yours. It took me ages to disentangle them from all the others. Good luck.
(There are several trees on "Ancestry" for assorted Newbolds about that generation - it may help to have a potter round those.)
Sorry I don't seem to be able to help you, but I'll have a look later.

There are 2 baptisms in 1854 in Sheepshed for William Lakin:

15 October 1854 - son of Henry (Tailor) and Mary Lakin

21 December 1854 - son of William (FWK) and Anne
