There are 2 baptisms in 1854 in Sheepshed for William Lakin:

15 October 1854 - son of Henry (Tailor) and Mary Lakin

21 December 1854 - son of William (FWK) and Anne

Thank you I now have his birth date exactly in December so if I find out when in 1871 the census was taken I can work out which William it is I’m looking for as one is 17 and the other 18.

Night of 2 April 1871.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

BUT both William's were registered in June quarter 1853 - Loughborough RD - GRO says mother's maiden names are Bottomore and Atkin.  So the 21 December 1854 baptism is your William.

DOH!!!!  Of course he is   :-[  :-X

It rather seems that Adelaide, the Newbold's daughter, was admitted to an asylum in 1899, and died there in January 1902.
As far as I can see, Ann died 1896, and John 1897.

You have most definitely helped.  I’ve not been doing this very long a matter of weeks.  I have a paid subscription to a heritage site but think I’m perhaps not using it efficiently. I can’t seem to find these records but everyone else can ???? It’s a learning curve I guess but I’m most grateful for everyone being so helpful on here.

Remember: most of us have had a great deal of generously given help here, and that's why we're all so pleased when we can be helpful to others.
There's a great deal of expertise on here, I know, I've been helped myself a lot. you'll probably help others, too, before long.
TY
