While researching a relative Sarah Matilda OAKLEY (in Army Overseas Births) who was born in 1864 in New Zealand (Father Sergeant 70th Foot)
the birth appears 3 times as below, some children 6 times! why ?? & if you want a birth certificate do you have to order all of them to find the right one?
seems very unlikely that 3 Sarah Matilda Oakley's where all born in the same year in the same Regiment etc

the 77th where not in New Zealand at this time?

The first reference is the 77th Foot, which may be typo in the index, the other two say the 70th Foot.

From what I have found, as you say, the 77th were not in New Zealand at that time but the 70th were. They were there from 1861 to 1866.

Have you checked the New Zealand bdm Online index to see if the birth was registered there?
