Great grandfather Mullen
« on: Thursday 27 May 21 17:44 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find anything about my great grandfather James Mullen. He was born in a workhouse in north dublin in 1864 (no idea of parents or siblings) he had a son simon mullen born in 1909 to my great grandmother Bridget Lane. In the 1911 census Bridget and Simon are in Ballinacurra Co. Cork. Bridget & James then had my grandmother on 04/01/1914 in midleton workhouse. I cant find a marriage certificate for James and Bridget. James Mullen died in 1920 but I am still none the wiser of his parents or siblings, or even a baptism. Can anyone help please?

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

How do you know James was born in a workhouse in Dublin?
Do you have him in any records other than Christina’s birth and his death. Where did he die?

I can only see one birth in Dublin north in 1864 and whilst he was born in the workhouse, there are named parents and an address.

I see that in 1911 Bridget and Simon are in the household of John French and Bridget is described as sister in law so John's wife Ann must be Bridget's sister.  Mary Lane (mother in law) is also in the residence.  But Bridget is stated to be single.  ???
