Sgt. Edward Marsh
« on: Friday 28 May 21 09:33 BST (UK) »
Hello all, I am back with my ancestor Edward Marsh who enlisted in the 54th Regiment he came from the parish of Maidstone in or near the Town of Maidstone, I haven't found him there. Searched in the Town of Marden bap. 4/10/1795 another date 18/5/1794 parents a Thomas Marsh and Mary Woollett but this is wrong. Searched the CD of Marden, Edward son of Averes (Poor) 18/5/1794 couldn't find him on Ancestry. Their is another family of a Thomas and Mary Marsh, children John 1786, Mercy 1790, Giles 1798, Edward 1795. I would like to make contact with someone who is connected with this family, I have all his Army Records, he died on the 23/6/1831 Poonamalle India. :-[ :-\

Regards,
Janet :'(

"Averes" is pretty rare, almost unique but the image on FindMyPast is clear. It does look a very "tidy" register and I can't determine if it's the original.
Whichever, cannot spot a birth/marriage for an Averes Marsh but there is a 1775 baptism (Lamberhurst) and a 1798 marriage (Horsmonden) for an Avis Marsh - both in the Marden area. The closest I could spot to an Averes in that locale.

Avis married a Robert Reeve and struggling to find her after that.

Findmypast has good coverage for Kent parishes.

The Mid Kent Marriages Index may help

https://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/

It's also worth looking at freeREG, familysearch and Ancestry and the Marden History Group.

I know we been in touch afew weeks ago!
I am sure the name is Avis Marsh who is your Edward’s mother.
People didn’t know then how their name was spelt!
I look again at my Marsh family but unable to find anymore information on your Edward…think there must be a Marsh family link.
But sorry cannot find it!

Good Morning jeanharris, thanks for your message and help, at the moment searching most of my Kent Parishes for the Marsh name, my their is a lot of them. :-[ This ancestor line has a David Ferguson from the parish of Herne. I also have a photo of Annie Maria Marsh, father James the son of Sgt. Edward Marsh she looks so elegant with a feathery hat on. I think I sent a message regarding James who also was a carpenter by trade and he married Charlotte Dewbery in New South Wales and her father Mark Dewbery also was a carpenter or builder. :-\ If only the information from the His Majesty's 54th Regt. of Foot show Edwards parents when he was discharged with Chronic Rheumatism  contracted in Drakan India, he had lovely handwriting when he signed this form. :'(
Regards,
Janet :-[
