There's a very lengthy article in the Bombay Gazette, 21 Dec 1825, about conditions in the 54th's Hospital serving the soldiers "in the midst of the swamps of Arracan" - spelled variously "Arrakan, Arakan, Arracan" throughout.
It is a real horror story.

His 1829 pension record on FindMyPast shows "Arakan" more clearly.

Good Morning hanes teulu had no luck in finding this article apparently you have to pay extra in Find My Past (already subscribed) and through Fibis found the paper etc, more payment required after advising me no cost. :'( I am getting tired of logging in all the time. :-[
