She says she is 26 - birthyear 1864 - his is 1863

Both mothers were maiden name Grant but can't see an Ironside/Grant marriage on SP.

Only one 1871 entry for a George Ironside with parents James & Jane but he was b 1869 Aberdeenshire

No George Ironside deaths with an 1862- 1866 birthyear

I think Catherine told a lot of lies about her age. She was definitely born on 20 October 1854, that was confirmed with the paternity decree that her mother, Marjory (sometimes known as May) Grant took out against the father, Alexander McGillivray.

Researching the names Mckenzie / Mackenzie from Ross and Cromarty especially Scoraig and Rherivach.

The names Fraser, MacGillivary and Grant from Daviot & Dunlichity.

The name of Fraser from Lanarkshire.

The name of Bell from Northumberland.

The name Chilla / Chylla / Chyla from Poland.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Is this a continuation of https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=849116.0 ?

Oh dear, now I feel guilty, as maybe it isn't permitted to continue down another path.

I was just trying to discover where George Ironside disappeared to, but I'll just give up trying to trace him.

Sorry  :-[

Don't feel guilty. And don't give up either.

It's perfectly reasonable to continue a topic on another board, especially when it's a different angle on the family, as this clearly is, but it's also handy to have a link to what has been found before.

I thought I had a Forres Ironside somewhere, butr when I checked it was the chap's middle name that was Ironside.

In the absence of a suitable birth for George under Ironside/Irons etc, always the possibility that his birth was illegitimate? www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQRK-9SS

Possible for George in 1871 - all children born in Forres:

Jane Grant 40 washerwoman b. Edinkillie, Elginshire
Ann Bowie 18 daughter
John Ogilvie 12 son - likely entry? www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQRK-SZC
George Grant 7 Son

Address: 113 North Back St, Forres

For 1861, Jane and the two eldest are at 88 North Back St, Forres.

There is this possible death for the Jane Grant above on SP:

Jane GRANT
Age 47
Mother's maiden name CUMMING
1874
137/ 33
Forres

No other surname showing so this normally implies it wasn't known to the informant or the woman was unmarried.
