'What happened to Alphonse's First Wife?".
« on: Friday 28 May 21 18:51 BST (UK) »
This is a Family History query which is a "brick wall" at present. I am asking this question on behalf of my Cousin Mr James who is 87 yrs old and still curious . Mr James's Grandfather was a Alphons Muhla born 4th December 1859 in Chatenois (Bas Rhin) France. He Married Mathilde Widman/Wittmann on 20th Nov 1885 . They had a Daughter Marie born 5th May 1885 . Subsequently , to this Marriage Alphons Married Emilie Seger on June 1897. The question is "What happened to Alphonse's First Wife?". No Death records or Divorce papers have been found . I appreciate any help with this mystery and thank you .

Looks like Alponse was in Mulhouse for his first marriage and listed as resident there when he emigrated.
Unfortunately records beyond 1892 aren't up on the Haut Rhin

If you don't already have it, I would contact the archives in Mulhouse and see if you can acquire a copy of his second marriage record, to see how he is described exactly.

There are  several trees with daughter marie Muhla (married louis Mann ) .none of the open ones have dates for Matilda but it might be worth contacting trees owners of the private trees

Thanks for your contributions here i appreciate this , it is a good start. Regarding that Family tree on the Ancestry site , it was compiled by my Cousin Walt James . His Mother was Rupertine James and it is this lineage that he is researching. Hopefully Rootschatters can keep this momentum up and i may find out more in the coming days.

The top tree is beautiful with lots of photos .
I thought maybe the tree owners who have matilda may know more about her

Did Alphonse bring up Marie ? Maybe she knew little about her own mother.

She is listed with her half siblings on
 alphonses naturalizationn application 1910

On her death certificate her mothers birth place is noted as same as hers alsace Lorraine but informant may not have known

In 1920
Louis & Mary Mann & their children live next door to
Earnest GSELL a baker from Alsace Lorraine and his wife Amelia  &
 son listed as;
Emil MUHLE machimist  b 1886 Alsace Lorraine is  this a translation mistake or another family mystery ?

Emil MUHLE the half brother was age 17 in 1910 census and parents whodeclared they'd been married 17 years
But a tree has marriage as ,1897

Was he born before they married ?

Regarding the latest post . I am sorry but the GSELL Family are not connected to Alphons Muhla. Although Alphons did have a Son named Emil... I understand this is a perplexing Family history line to research and thank you for all your support with this . Best leave it unsolved.
