What were his parents' names?

John Sutherland and Jane Melville are his parents
Colin is 77 on his death At Gartyemore on 11.5.1862

This Colin is from another family he was born in 1808 two years before my Colin Sutherland and Janet McIntosh were married . But I'll hang onto it I might find a place for it some day

Elizabeth, this Colin's death in 1862 at Gartymore at the age of 77 would make him born c. 1785. Fits with the ealier entries you have for the family:

Found the marriage of Colin and Janet two dates shown on familysearch
one 21.1.1810 the other 21.2.1810
In S/P 1841 census they are living at Gartymore
Colin head of house aged 56
Janet wife aged 45
John Son 20
George Son 18
Gordon Son 16

Yes your right about Colin !!!!!!! on looking back on his  son John's death  to Jean Gordon 1886 both parents are dead Colin Sutherland and Janet McIntosh .I've looked for Janet's death but not found as yet .Looking for Janet Sutherland also Janet McIntosh

So Colin must have married twice .I'll try and find that tomorrow

I'm still at a loss with Colin he is entered on the death  as 77 in 1862
and marriage in 1860 as 52 parents on both certificates John Sutherland and Jane Melville ( McLville )
spell check changed it for me

People were very often vague about their ages. Wasn't given much importance then really. He was marrying a younger woman in 1860. Even she cut her age down in the 1861 census to 38 and Colin was showing as aged 71 that year. The following year he was down as 77 at death.

As you know, sometimes you get corroboration from looking sideways at other potential family. These are some deaths showing on SP for potential siblings? The ones below are just in Loth where Colin showed as born:

1858 - Alexander Sutherland - Age 74 - mother's MN Melville - Death in Loth
1865 - Betty Sutherland - Age 71 - mother's MN Melville - Death in Loth
1867 - Roberta Sutherland - Age 94 - mother's MN Melvil - Death in Loth

With women, you can't tell which way surnames go (married v. maiden name) on SP index. There are other deaths elsewhere in Sutherland around the same time.
