Mowbray House, Melton Mowbray
« on: Saturday 29 May 21 16:27 BST (UK) »
From the Probate listing for Sarah Elizabeth BEXON (born Claypole 1856) who died on October 12th 1943, her usual address was 45 King Street in Melton Mowbray (confirmed from the 1939 Register) but she is said to have died in Mowbray House, 6 Thorpe Road, Melton Mowbray.

I have been unable to trace Mowbray House - either by Google search or by the 1939 Register.

Was Mowbray House some form of medical or social accommodation?

Many thanks,

Alan

If you search the 1939 register for Edwin Berry b 1914 you will find the address. It seems to be the former workhouse.

if you look on the workhouse website there was also a hospital from 1869/70

In 1904  the Melton Mowbray workhouse was numbered "6, Thorpe Road" by the Urban District Council for birth registration purposes.
