Demob WWI
« on: Sunday 30 May 21 15:04 BST (UK) »
50814 Edward Schofield of the Labour Corps King's Liverpool Regt received  £8:10s:1d on Demob Wage Packet.
Which Family possess.
Family History was he joined in 1914 and injured 1917
But if severely injured would he have been Demobbed or Discharged ?
There is no Silver Badge for him under 50814 or 75268 nor any Disability Pension Card
So assuming he was returned to his unit after Hospitalization
He presumably so out the rest of the War till 1919 and Demobbed.
Does the Wage packet marked Demob confirm that?
Did Soldiers Pay accumulate while in Service and remain unpaid till Death or Demob /Discharge?
Advice please.

Hi,
Discharged if injured. With a Pension.
Demob he would have been not injured.
Was he married?
Did he arrange for an allowance to his Mother?
I can't see his Army records.
I did see the British War Medal and Victory Medal record.

Married late 1919
No Army Records have Survived
No Silver Badge or Pension Record
So presume Demobbed uninjured

A common route for recovered wounded men no longer classified as A1 fit
was a transfer to the LC which is what happened with your man so more
likely him being wounded & transferred is correct.
In 1917 the Regimental Labour Btn's. were transferred to the newly
formed LC & were allocated numbers from a batch.
Your man's 75268 number was allocated to The Queen's Lab. Btn.
on transferring to the 88th. Coy. LC.
The L'pool Regimental Lab. Coy's numbers came from a different batch
so you know he didn't transfer at that time.
So in all probability wounded, recovered, re-classed as B1 & transferred to the 88th.

This batch went to the 18th. Lab. Coy. RWS Regt. (The Queens).
When they transferred to the 126th. LC they were posted to Eastern
Command Centre LC. for home posting only.
