John George Rutter b Sheriff Hill Row
« on: Sunday 30 May 21 17:10 BST (UK) »
Hi.
Jack Geo Rutter sent Post Cards from France in WW1 to his mother in law & others in Eighton Terrace & that Road was regarded as being in Springwell. Jack was born in Windy Nook & the community there is going strong.
Turns out that Jack was named after his dad John George Rutter.
Back in 1911 JG Senior puts himself down as being born in Sheriff Hill Row & he was living at 167 Wrekenton High St. To many High St was Eighton Banks. But as Gateshead grew old names got swallowed up.
There are a heck of a lot of Rutters. John George Rutter & his wife Charlotte (Boyson) had 10 children & by 1911 2 had died. I have seen families with more!!
Anyone researching this family?
Also Sheriff Hill Row must have been renamed.  Seems odd that it has gone without trace.
Cheers Bill B

167 Wrekenton High St. To many High St was Eighton Banks.

i'd disagree with 'the many' (though I never mind being in a minority).

Wrekenton High St stretched / stretches from the Team Colliery railway as far as past the Royal Oak and beyond the Clock, before becoming Wrekenton Row which was/is partly in Wrekenton and partly in Eighton Banks.

For many is what I mean.
We had family on High St & Wrekenton Row. There was a time when some roads had no names
