Military Record from c1868
« on: Friday 04 June 21 16:09 BST (UK) »
This is an extra from a Discharge Document dated 1868, but I can't quite read some of the detail.

I'm OK until

"was at the capture of _______________ in 1857 and
wears/bears (?) the medal and clasp for the ___________"

and then in the section details which ships he served on, I see

"Princess Charlotte (followed by dates etc)
- Tribune
- Ganges

__________ ___
Vindictive & Flora "

Can anyone fill in the gaps for me, please and also suggest why some of the dates he was on those ships overlap, please?

Thanks
STG

Looking at the dates for Princess Charlotte , someone has crossed through the 6 in 68 and pencilled in 5 , which makes more sense.  :)

Oh, and I can see that now too!

Anyone have any ideas about the two words above "Vindictive & Flora", please?

Thanks  ;D

I think it reads ...

Meeander per
Vindictive & Flora

... meaning that he was appointed to HMS Maeander, and sailed on Vindictive & Flora to reach her.

Maeander was in the West Africa Squadron off Ascension Island at this time

Oh that makes perfect sense.  Some of his children were born on Ascension Island.  ;D

Thank you soooooo much.
