Thanks so much Andrea for looking this family up for me.

They may be correct though - because the Census being 1851 - the other children would probably have married (somewhere where I can't find them!) and that's not to say that there may have been others born ! - I will have to certainly check this lot out!!

Regards

Hi Lesley

Many thanks for looking at the 1841 Census.

Although I'm afraid I am at a complete lost as to who all these children appear to be!  Names have appeared that I haven't come across before!!

And the names I do know -don't appear!!!.

This needs a bit of thought.  I looked on 1861 and only Stephen is with them then.  Where did you get the original names for kids from?  Are you chasing the wrong John Boys?   I should look at your facts and make sure you are going the right way!   However they could have had more children early in their marriage and they are gone by 1841.  As they married in 1817 that is possible - indeed quite probable.

I see that you got your information from the IGI.    However, it is all put on by a church member NOT extracted records.  You need to be very wary as you are trusting research done by another person and it may not be correct.   They obviously failed to find the rest of the children.   You must check the original parish records.  Get the film from your nearest LDS centre (listed on familysearch) or go to the record office if you can.   Maybe someone can do a look up at Lewes for you?  There may be a transcript.    Have you contacted the Hastings and Rother Family History Society?   They have published lots of booklets.   www.hrfhs.org.uk

Hi there

I think the Baptism Registers clear up the problem of two seperate surnames, two seperate churches, but it would seem the same family with the same parents?

Hastings Baptism Registers

Ore, 13 Sep 1818 - Ann Boyce, dau of John & Ann, Milkman
Ore, 23 Jul 1820 - John Boyce, son of John & Ann, Milkman
Ore, 4 Aug 1822 - Sarah Frances Boyce, dau of John & Ann, Milkman
Ore, 6 Jun 1824 - Elizabeth Boyce, dau of John & Ann, Milkman

All Saints, 5 Apr 1826 - Charlotte Boys, dau of John & Ann, Milkman
All Saints, 2 Jan, 1828 - David Boys, son of John & Ann, Milkman
All Saints, 26 Aug 1829 - George Boys, son of John & Ann, Dairyman
All Saints, 20 Nov 1829 - Harriett Boys, dau of John & Ann of Ore, Milkman
All Saints, 21 May 1845 - Stephen Boys, son of John & Ann of Ore, Milkman

Hope that helps

Chris in 1066

PS - It was not unusual for parishoners of Ore to use either All Saints or St Clements churches in Hastings.

Thank you Chris & Andrea for your help re this family.

A few of the other White family members from Ore also used St Clements & All Saints as well, so I knew that at least a couple of those kids belonged to John & Ann.

But just to be on the safe side I had already ordered the BMD film of Ore anyway - still have to check!

Cheers
