18 deaths reported today and new cases over 5000. Looks like the zero figure was just a delay in reporting over the bank holiday.

Which is what I thought in my previous post. I was getting really cross on Tuesday when they kept announcing about zero deaths for the first time in months. It was obvious that it was because of the long holiday weekend when deaths weren't reported.

Moe than 6000 new cases today
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

"However, the seven-day average for deaths is down by 5.2% and hospitalisations are down by 2.2%" (from the BBC)

Great to hear the news that there were no recorded deaths attributable to Covid-19 today.

Looking at the figures broken down by area (UTLA/LTLA) it was actually net zero - there were deaths, but the total was offset by deductions of deaths previously attributed incorrectly.

For example at the Upper Tier LA level the number of deaths to date and changes were:-

   Area      31/05/21      01/06/21      Change
   Cheshire East      801      796      -5
   Essex      3949      3947      -2
   Barnet      743      742      -1
   Buckinghamshire      981      980      -1
   Central Bedfordshire      571      570      -1
   County Durham      1249      1248      -1
   Croydon      806      805      -1
   Dorset      528      527      -1
   Gateshead      426      425      -1
   Greenwich      430      429      -1
   Herefordshire County of      283      282      -1
   Nottingham      619      618      -1
   Rotherham      754      753      -1
   Solihull      537      536      -1
   Southampton      320      319      -1
   Surrey      2422      2421      -1
   Wakefield      769      768      -1
   Warwickshire      1070      1069      -1      Total deductions
   Westminster      299      298      -1      -24
   Bexley      564      565      1
   Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole      860      861      1
   Bracknell Forest      158      159      1
   Fermanagh and Omagh      85      86      1
   Gloucestershire      951      952      1
   Harrow      503      504      1
   Havering      833      834      1
   Kent      3996      3997      1
   Kingston upon Thames      307      308      1
   North Yorkshire      872      873      1
   Peterborough      339      340      1
   Sefton      793      794      1
   Stockton-on-Tees      441      442      1
   Worcestershire      1215      1216      1
   Devon      688      690      2
   Hertfordshire      2462      2464      2
   Warrington      485      487      2      Total additions
   Cheshire West and Chester      866      870      4      24

...which gives the net zero figure widely reported in the media.

...and 12 deaths.  This thing is far from over and I won't be rushing to book a holiday yet, though we had hoped to go abroad at the end of July (nothing booked, just a date in mind).  Just waiting for Johnson & Hancock to announce that the June 21st date will be postponed. :'(

Hospitalisations and deaths come after the diagnoses!.

So, with cases going up this week ( see ONS reports today), one might expect hospitalisations and deaths to increase over the next  few weeks.

R is now 1-1.2 up from 1.1 a week ago.

Yes, but with such a high proportion of the population vaccinated, and the majority of those that aren't in the categories where the risk of hospitalisations and deaths is low (not nil, but low), the number look unlikely to skyrocket

Kettle elements make water taste a bit metallic, so I usually have a mix of tea (boiled from the tap) during the day and Spring Water if out, or not having tea. I have to have drink water in the middle of the night due to waking with extreme thirst.

Even though the virus likely went over a year ago, I have been left very thirsty.

6238 new cases on Friday for UK, that is a real worry, gone up by two thirds. This Delta virus is the problem is it not? Stay safe out there folks.

Yes, a real worry. :'(  Thanks for the good wishes.
And the problem? Certainly the Delta variant has been allowed to become a serious problem.

IMO, if open borders, pitiful quarantine measures and lax tracing had been controlled effectively since January 2020, the rest might be more easily controlled.
