The other person he leaves something to is a Mrs Helen McNAUGHTON of what looks like Kaikoura in the Hawkes Bay district.

Yep, he left his "grey pony named  Dick"  to her.   ;)

Hope you'll be able to work out where Helen McNAUGHTON and her husband, fit into the McNAUGHTON family (once I've posted all the info.)  ;D

I could find her on only one e/roll in NZ but her husband appeared listed back in 1900 at Napier.
Strange too - no NZ deaths or much else until I checked out the clergy in NZ.

1911 - Hawkes Bay - Napier e/roll

McNAUGHTON
- Helen Reid - married
- Robert - clergyman    .. both at May Avenue

1900 and 1905-06  - Napier e/rolls
McNAUGHTON - Robert - clergyman -  May Avenue   (Helen not on these rolls)
[Didn't check alternative surname spellings. ]

A later article states that Rev. R. McNAUGHTON had been in NZ prior to his being summonsed in 1902.

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/GIST19020217.2.28
... ^ tells why / how he came to return to NZ.

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/WDT19041230.2.24.14
... Rev. is currently in America undertaking theological study.

There are quite a number of mentions in newspapers of Rev. R. McNAUGHTON at different venues in NZ over the years up to 1912.

Thanks Lu

Found them in the 1921 census in Saskatchewan in Canada, both arrived in 1912, both born Scotland. He was 52 and she 54.

Makes his birth year 1869 and hers 1867.

Will keep digging.

She died in Stanley in 1933, maiden surname Duncan. He died in Canada in 1950 according to Findagrave.com.

She is not the relation, but perhaps he was.

This seems to be shortly before they came back to N Z ?

Ship:  'Furnessia" -

Embarked - New York

Arrived - Glasgow - 31 May 1904
McNAUGHTON - R. (male) - 32
McNAUGHTON - H. - (female) - 38

Yes, the husband (the Rev.) would be the one connected to John McNAUGHTON no doubt ?
