I haven' found any record of him being William Depledge, so I believe he was known as William Cook. Several trees on Ancestry have him marrying Lucy Bay in 1815 as William Cook. I have a DNA match to a descendant of the William who married Lucy, and one possibility is that the link is through my Depledge branch.

LizzieL,

An Elizabeth D was baptized at St. James Piccadilly in 1777, but she would not have been old enough to be your Elizabeth.

The parents were Richard and Elizabeth (nee Field), so a possibility is that Richard died and his widow became the mother of the illegitimate William.  However, I don't readily see a burial entry for Richard.

Obviously, this is speculative, but it may be worth looking further into.

The burial which you reported in 1808 is perhaps that of an Elizabeth D who was baptized at St. George The Martyr in 1806, but could be yours.

The Elizabeth bapt in 1806 was daughter of William and Elizabeth, she was born 1803. she was bapt at same time as sister Amelia. I think her parents were William b Marr, Yorks and Elizabeth b Tiverton, Devon. I have a marriage for Elizabeth Depledge 1829 St James Piccadilly to James Hodgson, which might be her

I have checked the burial register for 3 Apr 1808 at St George Bloomsbury (using Ancestry), but  I didn't see an entry for Elizabeth D.

I found the transcript on FindMyPast. It says St George the Martyr, then says St George Bloomsbury in the notes. They quote "City of London Burials 1754-1855" as source. Perhaps there was an error and it was a different St George.

FindMyPast also has transcript of burial of a William Depledge on 03 Nov 1799 at St George the Martyr. Notes say Boswell Court. So I think the notes field is actually the deceased residence. The only st george the Martyr I can find is in Southwark, which I think would then be in Surrey. So maybe Elizabeth resided in St George Bloomsbury but was buried in St George the Martyr parish, possibly had some connection with it and might be related to William D.
