if Thomas Hughes married after Sept qtr 1837 there will be a certificate,  You need to buy it to see who his father was.
You have Elizabeth Rees as a possible spouse which will make finding it easier.

Hi,

Am I right in thinking that this is your Thomas Hughes on the 1861 census -

2 Pen y Ffordd, Thomas Hughes age 41;  Elizabeth Hughes 43; Mary (daughter) age 10; Ann 8; Phoebe 5; Catherine 2.

and in 1851 - Thomas 33; Elizabeth 34; Harriet 10; John 7; Elizabeth 4; Evan 3; Mary 2 months.

If this is the correct family them the mothers maiden name is Davies and i think Thomas married Elizabeth Davies June Qtr 1841 District Llanwrst Vol 20 Page 279. Llanwrst district at the time covered Eglwysfach so it looks a possibility to me.

Alan

If Tall Al has the correct family then the GRO index has.
Llanwrst Union births all mmn Davies.
Evan Hughes 1848 Sept qtr
Phoebe Hughes 1856 Mar qtr
Catherine Hughes 1859 June qtr.

I still think you should get the marriage certificate to be sure.

WalesBMD has a marriage of Thomas Hughes to either Elizabeth Davies or Jane Jones in 1841 at St Martins,  Eglwysbach.
Ancestry records stop at 1837 and I can't find the marriage isn't on Freereg

Hi,

I agree you should get the marriage certificate so you can move forward.

Is there a will for Thomas's death in 1879 which may help to identify the family?

Alan

Just checked Find my Past and the only parish register marriage entry is for a couple at Pontfadog which is the wrong place.
When you get the marriage certificate then you have a better chance.  There could be other clues in the names of the witnesses that might help as well.
