I hope I'm doing this right, I saw a post which offered lookups and asked for request to start new threads.

Please could someone look up Francis Day
born circa 1852 in Newport, S Wales
Enlisted into the 23rd Regt in Nov 1870
The number 76 appears on some of his papers, I think this is his regimental number

The 76 could refer to WO 76 which is the War Office records

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C178238 - this link is an example of WO76 for the Royal Welch but is officers only. I had a quick trawl for Francis Day but drew a blank
