Looking for a burial plot
« on: Thursday 10 June 21 12:26 BST (UK) »
My first cousin, twice removed, William Mackenzie, died on 30 September 1941, in the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.
He was 48 years old, and single. He was stated to be a Hopper Skipper for the Clyde Trust, and his usual residence was 1654 Dumbarton Road, where he lived with my grandmother, his cousin, Mary Fraser.
My grandmother registered his death, and I would love to find out where William Mackenzie is buried.
I have had the most amazing help from people on this site, who have found out where other members of my family are buried, and I'm really hoping that they can help again.
Researching the names Mckenzie / Mackenzie from Ross and Cromarty especially Scoraig and Rherivach.

The names Fraser, MacGillivary and Grant from Daviot & Dunlichity.

The name of Fraser from Lanarkshire.

The name of Bell from Northumberland.

The name Chilla / Chylla / Chyla from Poland.

He could be anywhere, unlikely to have bought a lair at that age. Have you considered that the coffin might have been sent back to the Heilans, there were/still are? coffin clubs in Glasgow where folk paid installments to have their remains sent home. The Clyde Trust (Skye Navy) might know something.

Bests,
Skoosh.

No, I hadn't thought about him being sent back to the Highlands, but I shall look into that.

I have been helped to trace several other members of my family buried in different Glasgow cemeteries, Sandymount, Riddrie and Lambhill, and was just hoping that maybe William might have also been buried somewhere in Glasgow.

Hi, Did he have a middle name?
Maggsie

Both his birth and death certificates just give the name William Mackenzie.
He was born on 14 December 1892 at Rireabhach, Lochbroom, the son of Simon Mackenzie and Bella Macdonald.
Simon died in 1929, and Bella died in 1900.

I used Find a grave.
There was one in September 1941, sadly not him as different parents.
This site is quite good but you have to input the info.
I looked for Simon and Bella, sorry no results.
I did look for my family in Scotland some time ago and found a Glasgow graveyard was now a park, all the headstones were along the walls, so sad.
Any siblings to William?
They may possibly know.
Either that or view every graveyard on foot, which I have done many times in the UK and Ireland.
I have not been much help today sorry.

Simon died in Ullapool, and his death was registered by his sister, Christina Mackenzie- she was my great-grandmother.
Bella died in Rhireabach, and her death was registered by her brother, Kenneth Macdonald.

As far as I know, William had three sisters and one brother, Alexandrina, also known as Alice, Mary, Catherine, also known as Kitty, and Kenneth.
I haven't found the deaths of Mary or Catherine / Kitty.
Alexandrina / Alice, died in 1966 in Inverness.
Kenneth was killed in WW1.
