I had not thought to look in the Post-Office Edinburgh & Leith Directory but found 1846-47, 1847-48, and 1850-51 online.

This may be him too in 1847-48.
Macleod,Alex.,Supervisor of Excise, 8 Malta Terrace (which is between the Botanic Gardens and Edinburgh Castle).

Because of your help I was able to find this 1851 census record.

Angus or Alexander MacLeod was 65 and born in Assynt, Sutherland.  His wife Catherine or Christian McKenzie was 58 and born in Halkirk, Caithness.  I believe this is the same family because I found a marriage for this couple in Eddrachillis, Sutherland. 01/02/1810.  If you think I am mistaken please let me know.

I don't think the chap in in Edinburgh is the one.  Different children.

Marriage... Dalness. At Melbourne, Australia, on 3d March last, Thomas Hamilton, Esq. of Glen-Pidder, to Jane, daughter of the late Mr Angus Macleod, Supervisor of Excise, Edinburgh.  1858

Marriage... Glasgow, on the Ist instant, by the Rev. David Brown, D.D, Mr William Innes, to Catherine Ross, eldest daughter of the late Angus Macleod, Esq., Inland Revenue.  1858

The only death in the papers I see is:
… At High Street, Paisley, on the 27th ult., Mr Angus Macleod, late of the Excise. 1850

So with 2 in Excise a bit more complicated.

Don

I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

I too am interested in the family of Angus MacLeod (excise).

Don M Identified a death from a newspaper in June 2021
"the only death in the papers I see is:
… At High Street, Paisley, on the 27th ult., Mr Angus Macleod, late of the Excise. 1850

I'd be most grateful for any further details - this is likely my GGG grandfather.
His widow was living at High St Paisley in 1851, before emigrating to Australia in 1853.

I believe this is not the Angus married to Christina McKenzie but one married to Martha Ross Innes.

The 1858 marriage certificate of his daughter Catherine Ross MacLeod should settle that question.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

That marriage is 1855 not 1858

I was hoping to find where the death of Angus was reported.
